Defense of Academic Freedom Award
The NCSS Defense of Academic Freedom Award honors individuals who have defended the principles of academic freedom in specific controversies, fostered academic freedom through advocacy, and defended the freedom to teach and learn. The award includes $1,500, a commemorative gift, session presentation at the annual conference, and publicity. K-12 classroom teachers, professionals in other areas of education, students, parents, community groups, and members of other organizations are eligible to apply.
